After a hard fight, I finally managed to get to the base above the Eggishorn. My take-off was late (around. 12:30)
since I could only get here this morning using public transport. At least the base was worth it, over 3700 Meters/asl over the Eggishorn,
this is rare, specially so early.
After this I flew almost effortless up the valley of 'Goms', most of the time I was well above 2500 meters asl. Slowly I gained on the pilots in front of me. Above Oberwald I reached 4200 meter's asl and was looking forward to an easy crosing of the Furka. Unfortunatly I had to experience that 4200 meters are quickly gone when you decend whith 5-6 metern per second. Still I arrived high enough above the mountain pass. Normally it is no problem to find a thermal here and get back up, but not today. A hang-glider was aiming for a cliff further back in the direction of the 'Urseren' valley, I follow. This was a big mistake. The down wash started as soon as I got behind the ridge. For a while I was not even sure anymore to reach the main valley and saw myself parking somewhere next to the windy road. Down in the valley the wind blew right down the pass, I could only turn and land. Analysing the flight paths of the other pilots showed me that I was probably just a quarter of an hour late, since they all had a similar problem but got out of the wash a good bit higher than myself. Pitty, the day was really good, Alfredo Studer closed a 180 km FAI triangle and some pilots got up as high as 5000 meters !!!

The clear view made the high altitude to an unforgettable experience.
