Launch at 12:30. On the left of the launching site I have to work hard to gain, even to keep my altitude. Swearing at the one or other pilot, which cut's me off and forces me to drop out here and then. I'm pretty certain that some of the many other pilots are not to happy with me too. Eventually all pilots manage to get to the base, well all except me. I have to fight for almost an hour until I finally get above the top of the ridge and then to the base. The thermals are difficult, the south westerly wind is just a little to strong. I fly westwards, just like all pilots. After about 13 kilometers, above Gänsbrunnen, I turn due to the fact that my forwards speed has dropped below 18 km/h and start heading back to the launching site. It's better now, partially I fly with more than 50 km/h (no speedbar!). I fly past the launching site, on in the direction of Hochwacht and Waldenburg. The base has gone as high as 2800 meters sealevel, a very good height for the Jura (> 2000 m above takeoff). Flying is not easy, some thermals offer a mere 0.5 m/s while others shoot me up with 6 m/s. I fly on to the Geissfluh, Waserfluh to Veltheim, passing Olten, Aarau and Wildegg. I get more and more tense. Today is the day. The day where I could fly back to my home in Niederrohrdorf. The close I get to the Birrfeld airport, the more I have to watch my altitude. Somewhere here the controlled airway starts. I observe the many glider planes and keep no higher then they are. Over Veltheim I can gain once more height, together with a glider. Now I have to make a decision. Either fly to the left past the airport of Birrfeld in the direction of Baden or keep to the right in direction of Mellingen. I decide for the direct route, my target is now within reach. I fly around the Birrfeld airport as much I can afford, but probably closer than the (legal) 5 km zone. But I'm still about 1000 Meters above ground, and do not pose a problem for the aiport operations. I cross the river Reuss on about 1500 m asl and glide in direction of Fislisbach and Niederrohrdorf. After almost 5 hours of flying I land at the edge of my home village. A dream comes true!
