Early this morning we left in a small group (3 Cecks, 1 Columbian, 1 Mexican and myself) to visit an different flying area near Malinalco. Malinalco is a pretty little village about in the middle between Valle de Bravo dnd Mexico City. The launching site is on approximatly 2450 meter above sealevel, at the end of a valley, surroundes by several inactive vulcanoes. It is not really the good season for this area anymore, during the day the conditions can get quiet strong. Just after we arrived at the launching site , a first dustdevil chased across the slope. 'Pajaro' and I decide to give it a try, after havin observed the conditions for a while. Right after the take off we gain height and enjoy a nice flight obove the dry slopes of Malinalco. The Wind increases and finally we land in the vally below. The earth is incredible dry here, every step causes the dust to fly. A farmer ploughs th field next to our landing spot and enjoys the little change. While we packing, several dust devils build in the field around us and race across the dry fields. We did not land 1 second to early. The hot time during lunch we spend visition a ancient temple of the 'Mexicas', late descendants of the Atztecs. The temple is relativly small, but never the less impressive. It is build on the cliffs high above the little village of Malinalco. At about 3 PM we returning to the take-off. This time all of us start and have a flight. The conditions are getting weaker and finally end the fun. Befor that I had a somewhat scary experience: I let myself go a little to far behind the ridge and found myself suddendly going with 15 kilometers per hour backwars. Slowly I was sinking behind the ridge. Only with full speed I could get sideways out of the situation, not without producing some adrenalyn. On never stops learning. |

Pajaro takes off.
Just after take-off, working the way up.
Old and new. The farmer ploughs his dry field while we enjoy ourselfs with high-tech. The contrast could not be greater. |
