Today I could join a group of pilots from Pueblo and drive to the second launching site in the area, the El Penion. This launch offers the experienced thermal pilot much more than the La Torre, where one can only soar. Only few mexican pilots go at this time of the year to the El Pegnion since the conditions can be quite challenging. When we got to the launching site, some strong releases where comming up the hill. I hurry and get myself ready. One Mexican pilot launches and gains to the left of the lauching site on height. I prepare my X-Ray on the dusty ground of the big clearing which serves as a launching site and take off.

The thermals ar reliable and plesant to fly. Soon I get a base of about 3000 Meters above sea. I try to follow the ridge in direction of Valle de Bravo, but soon loos so much hight, that I turm around and use the same thermal again to get back up. in the mean time most of the pilots are airborn and slowly turn upwards.

I start flying over the back and find one thermal after the other. the other pilots fly more to the east of me. One soon looses to much height and lands in one of the many big fields. Ich fly on but also fail to find a thermal ober the flat parts, just befor landing I can gain another 100 meters, buit it is not reliable and I touch down near a small restaurant.

A little boy, about 9 years old, helps me to pack my glider. He does it in such a professional way that I get the feeling not to be the first pilot to have landed here.

By taxi I return to the official landing site at Valle de Bravo. Something to dring and a fresh mango restores my energy. In the later afternoon I go back up to the La Torre, where I can soar for another hour. What more can one want ?
